Matt Cutts: Website with More pages Do Not Get Higher ranking Automatically

In a new video released by Google’s head of search spam, Matt Cuts said that “I wouldn’t assume that just because you have a large number of indexed pages that you automatically get a high-ranking, that’s not the case”.

Cutts also said that website with more pages will naturally get more traffic because each of the individual pages can also rank for their own set of search queries, increasing the overall opportunity for sites to gain visitors.

If the site does not have more pages, it might have more links pointing to it, which means it has higher page rank, Cutts added that “if that is the case we might be willing to crawl a little bit deeper into the website and if it has higher PageRank, then we might think it’s a little bit of a better match for users queries.

Having a large site is great, but need to ensure that you have inbound links to your site in order to help it rank and get higher PageRank.
